"When you get tired, thank God because there are others who
have nothing to do to get tired."
These are the words of Reverend Texavier Biita while
preaching at the celebration of Nyakahanga day held on February 4 this year in
the grounds of the hospital.
It is normal for the employees of this hospital to
evaluate their service every year and this evaluation goes along with the
ceremonies of encouraging each other, eating, dancing, congratulating each
other and others.
Reverend Biita read a word from Luke 17:5-10 and said
that, "We must rely on God so that with His Grace He can use us
tirelessly. Let us not consider ourselves entitled to recognition but
always consider ourselves obligated to serve as the word of God says in Luke
17:10 Likewise you, when you have done all that you have been commanded, say,
We are only unprofitable slaves; we just did what we had to do."
After the short opening ceremony, there was a short
ceremony that had three events, namely saying goodbye to 14 retirees, saying goodbye
to the former Secretary of the hospital, Reverend Jeremiah M. Rugimbana, who is
currently the General Secretary of the Diocese of Karagwe, and welcoming the
newly elected Secretary of the hospital, Reverend Severine Malozi.
Together with all the hospital staff to celebrate together the New Year 2023.
The ceremony was attended by two bishops, the Bishop of
the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania, Karagwe diocese, Rev. Dr.
Benson Bagonza (the guest of honor) and Bishop Jackson Mushendwa of the Western
diocese (Kigoma).
The acting chief physician of Nyakahanga hospital,
Dr. Furaha Kahindo mentioned the
challenges facing the hospital as including the lack of money which contributes
to the difficult operating conditions, the lack of staff of various cadres such
as eyes, nursing and organs as well as the absence of an ambulance.
The guest of honor at the ceremony, Bishop Dr.
Bagonza has praised the management of the hospital for the good work they
continue to do. He said; "I congratulate all 265 employees of this
hospital for continuing to do good work. Since we have been here 112
years ago, you have continued to do well in all fields."
However; One of the challenges facing Nyakahanga hospital
which is the selected hospital of Karagwe district is the absence of an
ambulance as stated to the guest of honor. Responding to the challenge,
the guest of honor said that "I am currently working on it. If
necessary, I will steal from those who deprive us and bring it to pack it here
because when they get sick, they also run to us." Bishop Bagonza has
said.
